It's 3:08 and I just got back from a midnight screening. I have to get up for work in 3 hours, and I'm quite sure that I won't sleep, but man...
This movie is great. Heath Ledger was amazing, the chaos unleashed in Gotham was monumental, and Jim Gordon was really strong. Chicago looked like a lovely lady in it too - quite the travel advertisement.
I was an extra in the funeral scene when they were shooting it, but I'm not visible. Oh well - it was still amazing. And I'm not easily amazed.
The ferry situation nearly had me in tears - the statements made about humanity were scary, true, and ultimately redeeming.
Now to try to sleep...
Sure, I love the flowers and the temperate weather, but what I really love is seeing Puppetbike again - today after work was my first sighting and it made me smile the whole trip home.
I love those little guys.
At least in Chicago, anyway. I was walking to the bus stop after work and spotted some really neat old cars. At first I thought that a car show must be going on, and then it hit me: Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are in town filming Dillinger. A bit further south I saw the rigs and other trucks, and a very special bus...that was full of Hot Actors (I'm guessing, at any rate).
Today was our company outing - a boat tour of the river with a jaunt out into the lake. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't quite fun either. Got some nice pictures and the weather was gorgeous. I won a gift certificate to Applebee's, my most hated of chain restaurants - and I can't even use it! There's only 1 location within city limits and it's far away, so I'll be unloading it on a burb-dwelling coworker. It figures that the one time I win something, it's something I can't really use.
Oh well. At least I didn't pay for it!
I drank a lot of beer during the boat ride and now I have a killer headache. It's time to surrender to the siren's call of the couch and hope it goes away soon.
Show us some photos and/or videos you took at a concert.

I don't think there's been a more timely Vox Hunt than this one - I have just returned from seeing The Decemberists play a free show with the Grant Park Orchestra in beautiful Millenium Park. I left work early so I could ensure a good blanket position and hunkered down with a book. Some friends came after they got off work and we sure did rock out. The weather was a bit touch and go for a while (the lightning bits at the end during "The Mariner's Revenge Song" were pretty cool) but it didn't cut loose until I was on the bus home. The Decemberists were great, as per usual, and the orchestra was such a wonderful touch to the already beautifully arranged songs. I hope they release these songs because they were just amazing. Enough superlatives, here's the pictures!
It's gorgeous outside, and Christian Bale and Heath Ledger are gallavanting around the city, shooting the new Batman. And here I sit, in my drab beige cube...
I found a story about what happened to the Quizno's Coyote, Adrian, after he was removed from the comfortable beverage cooler. There are some lovely pics of his release.
For the past week, I'd been planning on getting out and about on Saturday. Mostly to see a movie, but also to get some photography in. I got up, motivated myself to get out of bed (usually I lounge around listening to NPR and pretend I'm still sleeping because I'm so mentally drained from the previous week), and grabbed a bus to the Loop. I got coffee, and saw Puppetbike on the way to the theatre. I mentioned Puppetbike in a previous post, but I've not had the opportunity to see it in action. The bike was set up on a good corner with lots of sun - the puppets were brown cats and they were dancing to "Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens." It was great! I was grinning from ear to ear (and that's quite a feat considering I'm a jaded cynic).
On the way back up to the main drag, I took these shots of this part of the Loop. A few of the streets down in the super-touristy part of the city are on 2 levels so as to keep traffic manageable. It appears to work, but makes walking suck. The neat part about is that it makes the buildings seem absolutely huge - even bigger than they really are since you're more removed from them.
After the movie I had some time to kill, so I looked at shoes in Nordstrom and wasted some time in the Virgin Megastore. I finally bought my best friend's Festivus present - the Tom Waits Orphans set. Then I headed up the street in a northerly direction to obtain some grub, read, and then head over to said friend's bar to get some drinks and wait to meet friends.
My friends got there around 7 - I didn't get home until close to 2. The three of us had drinks, they had dinner, and we were going to wrap stuff up, but then this older couple decided to befriend us and the guy kept buying us drinks and we discussed politics, the stock market, retirement, life direction, etc. The bar isn't my favorite bar in the world, but it's neat to meet people that I certainly wouldn't have a chance to meet in any other setting. The clientele tend to be 50 and older, and be much more wealthy than anyone I know. This guy was covered in man jewelry (ew, I know) that was just dripping in diamonds - pinky rings included. And he hates GWB. That was the surprising part.
Once we left the bar, we were lucky enough to catch the bus almost right away, but I still had to grab the train to get to my neighborhood. The train stop was deserted and weirdly quiet. I'm not scared in those situations, but it so weird to step into that when you live in the city.
I couldn't really sleep once I got back, so I checked online stuff and read for a while. No hangover today, but it might be a herculean effort for me to stay up to watch the premiere of Extras tonight. Thank god for On-Demand.
So yeah, that was my big day out.
