They Say It's Friday...
So much going on, yet I'm quite sure none of it's worthy of reporting. I played hooky yesterday - well, not really, I did have a headache - but it 's mostly due to sleeping like crap for the past few weeks. Here's a bunch of random junk to tide you over until the next batch of random junk is reported:
- I am totally obsessed with peanut butter & strawberry jelly sandwiches. Never had any sort of PB&J for the first 34 years of my life, and in the past month, I think I've made up for it.
- Andrew Bird is putting on a free show in the Pritzker Pavillion in the lovely Millenium Park. I just have to hang in until September 3.
- Death Cab for Cutie is playing in that same park on June 3, but those tickets weren't free - they were a whopping $15!
- I'm going to see Eddie Izzard in a few weeks - but I've heard he's not a transvestite anymore. Crap.
- I have a necrotic (re: dead) bone in my foot due a fracture that went untreated. Oh boy! Aside from the old lady shoes and orthotics, surgery may lie in my future. Not excited about that - my dream of being a ballerina is dashed!
- After missing the past 3 Lollapaloozas, I'm finally going to this one! 2 folks from work are going too so this should be fun.
- I'm finally attending my first Chicago Cubs game at the end of the month. Not a baseball fan in the least, but I feel like I should go to a game. It's fun to eat crap, drink beer, and people watch.
- My BFF is getting married this June, and in addition to a regular wedding cake, they're recruiting friends to make cupcakes so they can recreate a screen shot from Pacman. I'm in charge of the red ghost cupcakes.
- My jobless roommate still doesn't have a job, but he's in the planning stages of getting an art show together - he moved here to do art, and after 2 years, he's finally getting around to it. He's also dating a Sugar Mama, so this seems like it's going to work out okay.
- My dad isn't in the nursing home anymore. My sister told me that he doesn't want to do chemo, and his insurance sucks, so he moved back home and the plan is to keep him comfortable and let nature take its course. This sounds like a pretty good plan to me. He'll be more comfortable, and my mom will have someone to take care of - she's that sort of person.
- The weather here is lovely and I'm totally ready to blow this popsicle stand and get a beer. Chicagoans love sitting outside the minute it gets warm enough, and I'm totally all about this.
I think that's about it. For all the consumers out there, I recently bought a new robe (from QVC, no less - who'da thunk it?) that is that super-soft stuff and I call it "The Muppet," and I bought a new bag on ebay that arrived today and I'm totally in love with it.

You're so lucky to be going to see Eddie Izzard! Hope you have an awesome time. Maybe he'll at least wear heels, he is an executive transvestite after all.
The ND "I'm a quitter" photo ALWAYS cracks me up!!!
It IS a beautiful day today. Hooray hooray, finally!!!
All the music stuff is SO much fun to see! I love going to any kind of musical performance....almost.
So sorry about your foot. Is it painful all the time? Sorry about your ballerina career, too! ;) But, seriously, nagging foot pain is...well, it's a pain.
Mmmm, you should try my homemade strawberry jam! When my strawberries come in I'll make you some and mail it to you!!!
((Onion??? Wow, never woulda thought of that))
Love the Pac-Man cake idea.
Ballerinas don't get to eat PB&J, so that part's not a loss.
I think your dad's decision is a wise one.
Eddie Izzard! No matter the clothes, it'll be great.
What color is the Muppet?
Good to get caught up with what you are up to. I didn't see a mention of "return to Arizona in the blazing heat of summer", though.
So sorry about dad, but it sounds like the best decision all around. Good luck and may he be comfortable as possible.
The PacMan cupcakes - want pictures!!!
Enjoy the beautiful Chicago weather and have a blast at the baseball games. People watching is primo!
The fighting, the refusal to face the inevitable, often makes things so much more of a struggle. But, each situation is different.
I applaud their wisdom.
I hope whatever hospice is involved with your father's care works as well as the best of them do. Comfort and peace should be everyone's right, not something you have to demand. I wish your whole family all the best.
I would LOVE real strawberry jam! Let me know when you're doing it and I'll totally send you my address. Homemade is always better :)
There's also the Vox meet-up trip to look forward to - so much traveling!
I am glad the pod is helping with the foot pain, somewhat at least!
I WILL let you know when I am making the jam. And, I am really getting exited because it looks like a lot more of my strawberry plants survived the winter than I thought! YAY!
Amen, to that! But....we keep soldiering on, anyhoo! ;)
