Dennis Kucinich is speaking on the floor of Congress (and on C-SPAN) right now, introducing articles of impeachment. Go, Dennis! [As suggested in comments]:Congressman Dennis Kucinich is on the floor of the House of Representatives right now introducing 35 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush. Yes, 35. He'll be reading for a while. [Update: at an hour and a half, he's up to #14 :-) ]
The only place I've seen it was on Fark.com, so good luck. I'm sure that this is going to be ignored by morning.
I'm so glad someone is finally doing this, and I'm glad that it's Kucinich, but I wish from my heart of hearts that something would come of it. Censure, at least. That would be super-sweet.
I just checked the site again - he finished up just after midnight.
I also just wrote an email to my representative asking him to support Kucinich. That felt really good.
The only other place I saw word of this was in the Reuters blurb on the NYTimes site. It just irritates the hell outta me that there isn't more coverage!!!
god, this is sooo frustrating. I just searched the CSPAN site looking for rerun information and found zilch. I understand the articles of impeachment focused on the (mis)handling of the Katrina aftermath.
Do a search on The Huffington Post for Dennis Kucinich, and read today's blog post; in the comments, there are links to youtube vids and a transcript.
There were 35 articles, so I'm sure that Katrina's in there somewhere. I also read that Vincent Bugliosi is trying to get Bush & Cheney brought up on wrongful death charges - very interesting!
found them, thanks! this post, by Karen Dalton-Beninato has some excerpts: Rep. Kucinich repeated Bush's statement, "I don't think anyone
anticipated the breach of the levees," comment on Sept. 1 2005, and
listed the response as "Criminally delayed, indifferent and inept." The
only top FEMA official posted in New Orleans in the immediate aftermath
emailed Michael Brown on Aug. 31st regarding the conditions that were
past critical. He said that without immediate help, "Many will die
within hours." Brown replied, "Thanks for the update. Anything specific
I need to do or tweak?" Kucinich noted that Homeland Security's Michael
Chertoff "Seemed to not know what happened on ground until reporters
told him."
But... but... what took him so long?! Seriously. Isnt it just bluster, with an election only months away? And what about CHeney? Who the f*ck wants Cheney stepping in till inauguration?
jaypo, I know a minuscule amount about how Congress works, and even less about Robert's rules of order, which guide many meetings, including those of Congress. I can say that Dennis Kucinich has been trying to do this for a long time. - as the majority party decides the 'agenda' of meetings, DK would have not been allowed while the House was in Republican hands, so he had to wait until Democrats took over in January 2007. - when the Dems took control, Nancy Pelosi, who as Speaker of the House controls its meetings, announced (to the dismay of many) that impeaching Bush was "off the table". I'm not sure how DK managed to get the time slot.
re Cheney: you are quite correct. nobody wants Lord Darth Cheney to assume the Presidency. but were the articles of impeachment to be approved by the House, they could be manipulated so an actual vote wouldn't happen until Bush's last day in office <----- props to teh SO for that suggestion.
and finally, yes, it is very possible all bluster and hot wind and unlikely to get any traction. but it feels GOOD.

Thanks for the explanation, m. It's the old better-late-than-never syndrome, I suppose, and another cliche comes to mind too: Too little too late. I think ultimately that's why I personally find most political arenas not worthy of my extended mental investment, best left to those who can constructively bear the load of tedious process and the living-out of cliches. My poor mind gets flubbergusted and moves on to other things. Thank god for folks like you and LordK. :-\
Here's to future changes, my friend... *clinks wineglass*

Maybe I don't understand politics.
