Sure, I love the flowers and the temperate weather, but what I really love is seeing Puppetbike again - today after work was my first sighting and it made me smile the whole trip home.
I love those little guys.
I ran errands today and bought 2 amazing things:
A new shower curtain (which now precipitates the finding of new towels and rugs):
Also, because some of you were curious about the robe that I posted about, here's a close up of the fluff. It's a minty green, but that was hard to capture in my bathroom's light. I call it "The Muppet."
Here's a gratuitous shot of my new purse. I love it.
I also went to the grocery store, bought some foodables, and ran to Target and managed to escape without going crazy. Setting foot in a chichi baby boutique was also in the cards - a friend is having her first critter so I had to get a shower gift. The store was out of the stuff I really wanted to get her, so I ended up getting the "I'm going home!" outfit and an amazing little blanket that's satin on one side, super-soft chennile on the other. Some of the stuff in the store was really cute, but the majority of it made me fear children even more. Or, more accurately, breeders of them.
So that's my weekend in a nutshell. I spent a lot of money and ran around in the gorgeous weather. Friday night I went out straight after work and drank too much hard cider - yet was surprisingly spry the next day. I'm all out of whack.
Ooh, one more thing: for those of you with cats, I highly suggest you run to your nearest Target and buy a few packs of the sponge balls cat toys they have now - kiki loves them! I bought her one pack, and then my roommie bought 2 more. It's fun to throw them all at once - she totally freaks out. They bounce really well too, and if you step on one, it just smooshes and you don't die. $2/pack is quite a bargain too.
So much going on, yet I'm quite sure none of it's worthy of reporting. I played hooky yesterday - well, not really, I did have a headache - but it 's mostly due to sleeping like crap for the past few weeks. Here's a bunch of random junk to tide you over until the next batch of random junk is reported:
- I am totally obsessed with peanut butter & strawberry jelly sandwiches. Never had any sort of PB&J for the first 34 years of my life, and in the past month, I think I've made up for it.
- Andrew Bird is putting on a free show in the Pritzker Pavillion in the lovely Millenium Park. I just have to hang in until September 3.
- Death Cab for Cutie is playing in that same park on June 3, but those tickets weren't free - they were a whopping $15!
- I'm going to see Eddie Izzard in a few weeks - but I've heard he's not a transvestite anymore. Crap.
- I have a necrotic (re: dead) bone in my foot due a fracture that went untreated. Oh boy! Aside from the old lady shoes and orthotics, surgery may lie in my future. Not excited about that - my dream of being a ballerina is dashed!
- After missing the past 3 Lollapaloozas, I'm finally going to this one! 2 folks from work are going too so this should be fun.
- I'm finally attending my first Chicago Cubs game at the end of the month. Not a baseball fan in the least, but I feel like I should go to a game. It's fun to eat crap, drink beer, and people watch.
- My BFF is getting married this June, and in addition to a regular wedding cake, they're recruiting friends to make cupcakes so they can recreate a screen shot from Pacman. I'm in charge of the red ghost cupcakes.
- My jobless roommate still doesn't have a job, but he's in the planning stages of getting an art show together - he moved here to do art, and after 2 years, he's finally getting around to it. He's also dating a Sugar Mama, so this seems like it's going to work out okay.
- My dad isn't in the nursing home anymore. My sister told me that he doesn't want to do chemo, and his insurance sucks, so he moved back home and the plan is to keep him comfortable and let nature take its course. This sounds like a pretty good plan to me. He'll be more comfortable, and my mom will have someone to take care of - she's that sort of person.
- The weather here is lovely and I'm totally ready to blow this popsicle stand and get a beer. Chicagoans love sitting outside the minute it gets warm enough, and I'm totally all about this.
I think that's about it. For all the consumers out there, I recently bought a new robe (from QVC, no less - who'da thunk it?) that is that super-soft stuff and I call it "The Muppet," and I bought a new bag on ebay that arrived today and I'm totally in love with it.
At least in Chicago, anyway. I was walking to the bus stop after work and spotted some really neat old cars. At first I thought that a car show must be going on, and then it hit me: Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are in town filming Dillinger. A bit further south I saw the rigs and other trucks, and a very special bus...that was full of Hot Actors (I'm guessing, at any rate).
Whilst out and about today, I stopped in at the Bleeding Heart Bakery to pick up something sweet. Turns out they have a Top Chef cupcake - a new one each week to celebrate Top Chef being in Chicago this season.
No pictures, but I had a Wasabi White Chocolate cupcake and it was delicious. There was even a little piece of sushi (made of frosting) on top. I wonder what next week's will be...
